Fouls proved costly to the Island School Islanders Thursday night during the county’s Division II youth basketball games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The Islanders, working behind a trey from Sienna Oldfield in the opening frame, built up a 12-8 halftime lead.
But fouls took its toll on the Islanders’ roster, leaving just four players on the court to finish the match.
The Kauai Ballers capitalized to outdistance the Islanders 18-8 in the final two periods to take a 29-25 win.
Kauai Ballers leading scorer Jaliyah Casem dropped 10 points, and was followed by Mele Tafea with seven points. Kayla Tangalin finished with six points, Lilya Cummings added four, and Angelica Cudiamat ended with a pair in the win.
Alexis Warnock topped the Islanders’ scoring with 10 points, followed by Oldfield, who bucketed seven points. Audrey Warner and Olivia Gegan finished with three points apiece. Louisa Tanigawa rounded out the scoring with a pair.
w Earlier in the evening, Team Central B forfeited its boys Division II match to the Aloha State Warriors due to insufficient numbers. An exhibition game between the two teams followed when the teams combined players.
Kaulupono guard Kierstin Gummerus fired a game-high 11 points and Kaye Serapio finished with nine points to lead Kaulupono to a 37-20 win over Westside basketball in the finale.
Cori Burton topped the Westside effort with eight points followed by Brychelle Kalai with five points. Momilani Martins added four, and Ashlyn Agena finished with three points.
Games resume Monday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center starting at 6 p.m.
