Daniel Omakanim
Daniel “Danny” Omakanim passed away on Jan. 19, 2015, at KVMH, Waimea, at the age of 79. Born on June 24, 1935, in Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii, he was a retired heavy equipment mechanic for the Gay and Robinson Sugar Plantation in Makaweli.
He is preceded in death by his father, Domingo Omakanim; and hanai-sister, Nancy “Daling” Espinosa.
He is survived by his mother, Dolores “Loling” Omakanim; his wife, Elaine Omakanim; son, Damien “Kaimana” Omakanim of Waimea; daughter Lynn (Tim) Mira of Lawai; and two grandchildren, Cory Mira of Honolulu and Kyle (Brandi) Mira of Honolulu.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at the Waimea Sacred Hearts Catholic Church, at 9:30 a.m. Services will begin at 11 a.m. with lunch to follow. Committal service at the Kauai Veteran’s Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

Linda McCall
Linda Frances McCall passed away suddenly on Jan. 2, 2015, on Kauai. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida to George and Frankie McCall on Sept. 12, 1943. She moved to Hawaii at a young age and traversed between Kauai and Santa Barbara, California, frequently. Linda was very active with the Theatre Arts on Kauai and was an avid tap dancer. Linda graduated with honors in Paralegal Studies at Kapiolani Community College in Honolulu, HI. She also had a BS degree in Coursework in Communications and graduated from Antioch University in Santa Barbara, CA. She was well known for her weekly broadcast spot with Kauai’s public radio station, KKCR. She leaves to mourn her father, George Thomas McCall Jr., sister, Valerie J. McCall and brother, George Thomas McCall III and a host of relatives and life-long friends. She will be deeply missed.
Lorraine Stampfl
Lorraine Josephine Stampfl of Wailua, Kauai passed into her savior’s loving arms on Jan. 7, 2015, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Born on Oct. 1, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois, she was a retired film technician for Consolidated Film Industries in Hollywood, California. From early on in life she loved music and dance and participated in her dance school’s programs where she danced the ballet. A poet from childhood, she wrote poetry influenced by her life experiences. Her favorite pastime was cooking and baking. She made the most delicious cakes, pies, breads and cookies. She loved all people and made friends easily. Her sense of humor made her the life of the party. Her faith in God and her love made our house a home.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Frieda and George Fountas and by her sister, Marie Fountas.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Kinoshita (Steve Shioi), brothers Peter Fountas and Phillip Fountas, sister Beverly Fountas, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at Lihue Lutheran Church at 9:30 a.m., services will begin at 10 a.m. with burial to follow.

Richmond Apaka
Lt. Colonel Richmond A. Apaka passed away after a sudden illness. Born in Nawiliwili, Kauai, to loving parents, Kelii and Leila, he grew up playing on the warm sandy beaches of Hanalei, Kalihiwai, and Kalapaki, with his brothers, Kenneth and Herbert and sister, Hilda. His education brought him to Kamehameha schools and the University of Hawaii where he graduated in 1953.
He then took a USAF officer commission allowing him to pursue his passion for aviation. Along for military life adventures were the love of his, Patricia, and children, Kunani and Ann. After retiring from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel, Richmond and Pat and Kunani relocated to Japan where he continued his love of aviation as a Captain, flying 747s for Japan Airlines till he had to retire at the age 60 rule.
Following retirement from the airlines, Richmond and Pat returned to the U.S. and settled in Lakewood, WA. While in Washington state, Dad furthered his love of aviation and pursued an airframe and power plant license to further his love of aviation. Richmond and Pat enjoyed playing golf, working in their beautiful yard, and watching their talented grandson (Matt) play ice hockey.
After the passing of his wife in 2001, Richmond relocated to California where he fulfilled a lifetime goal of building an experimental RV7 aircraft with his son (also a pilot). While in California, a third grandchild, Lehua-nani arrived and frequently accompanied grandpa and daddy to the airport as a “hangar rat.” Richmond’s grandson, Matt, joined the aviation crowd as a commercial pilot in 2006, continuing the family legacy for the love of flying.
Returning home to Kauai in 2008, Dad took care of his sister, Hilda, resumed his ukulele lessons, Hawaiian language classes through U of H, golfing, paddle boarding and resuming the “no shoes, no uniform, beach boy,” lifestyle he enjoyed in his youth.
Much aloha to all his family and friends as he begins his final climb with open airspace, approved flight plan and throttle at max. IMUA Colonel Apaka, IMUA!!!
Manuel Pimental
Manuel “Macky” Pimental of Kalaheo, passed away on Jan. 19, 2015, at KVMH at the age of 64. Born on April 13, 1950, at Wilcox, he was a decorated U.S. Army Vietnam War Veteran, ordnance technician at PMRF and field technician with Kauai Coffee. Most importantly, he was an amazing husband, father and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Pimental Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Pimental, three daughters, Leanne (Shiloh) Pimental of Koloa, Lissa (Shane) Jones of Kona and Carleen (Hans) Reeves of Kekaha; eight grandchildren; mother, Rose Pimental; three brothers, Charles (Jerry) Pimental Jr., of Kekaha, Clifford (Deborah) Pimental of Lawai and Joseph (Cobina) Pimental of Kalaheo; two sisters, Carol (Tony) Pereira of Kalaheo and Laurie Pimental of Kalaheo. Numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services for Macky will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe, with visitation from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Full military honors will commence at 11:30 a.m. A celebration of life will follow at Hanapepe Neighborhood Center. Family request casual attire.

Kazuo Senda
Kazuo Senda of Lihue, Kauai, passed away on Jan. 21, 2015, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 95. Born on Jan. 29, 1919, in Lihue, Kauai, he was a retired CPA.
He is survived by his wife Norma T. Senda; son: Warren (Georgiane) Senda; daughter: Trudy (Loren Tanigawa) Senda; brother: John Senda, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Private services were held.
Arrangements were handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Eleanor Ann Arrojo
Eleanor Ann Arrojo of Lihue, Kauai, passed away on Jan. 23, 2015, in Honolulu, her place of birth at the age of 67. She was an early education teacher at Immaculate Conception, St. Catherine’s and Holy Cross Schools on Kauai.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Gregory Arrojo, sons, Michael (Debbie) Manawa, of Oahu, Randy (Janine) Manuwa, of Oahu and Jon (Del) of Lihue and daughter Melissa Arrojo ( Tommejoe) of Lihue, by her brothers, Alan Manosa, Steven Manosa and Sydney (Nani) Manosa, sisters, Theresa “Joyce” Magdadaro, Diane Barbadillo and 10 grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family for visitation at Immaculate Conception Church on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, 8:30 to 9:25 a.m., followed by Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Casual attire.

Daniel dela Torre
Daniel dela Torre of Kapaa, previously of Kekaha, passed away in Garden Isle Health Care on Jan. 24, 2015, at the age of 87. He was born in Kekaha, Kauai on Dec. 29, 1927, and retired after 43 years with Kekaha Sugar Company as a controller.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine “Sefa,” daughter Alison (Michael) Fernandes; son, Gary (Carol) dela Torre; 5 grandchildren, Levi (JoAnne) Fernandes, Jocelyn (Chad) Burch, Leland Fernandes, Amanda (Evan) Judd and Daniel “Jake” (Gabriella) dela Torre; 2 great-grandchildren, Sadie Burch, Gustavus Fernandes; brother, Jody (Emily) dela Torre; sister, Lillian (Bill) Whalers; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with visitation from 9 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the dela Torre family with arrangements.
Sophie Ornellas
Sophie M. Ornellas of Kealia, Kauai, Hawaii, passed away on Jan. 19, 2015, at the age of 95. Born on Feb. 20, 1919, in Kumo Kumo, Kauai, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Delores Martin; husband, Willie Ornellas Sr., brothers, John, Manuel and Ralph; sisters, Mary, Gloria, Carmen and Isabella.
She is survived by her sons, Willie Ornellas Jr., Kapaa, Richard (Kuulei) Ornellas, Anahola, Patrick Ornellas, Kapaa, daughter, Bernice Lindsey, Kapaa, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Kapaa. Visitation at 9 a.m., Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Kapaa, Kauai.
