Laura Schanon of Xan and Black Pearl said she was sad Roy’s Bar & Grill is closing (Jason Fujinaka got to eat there Tuesday night), but is excited about the new Eating House of 1849 by Roy Yamaguchi at the Shops at Kukuiula.
Clark (they call him “Captain”) Nakashita is the last of the original crew that opened Roy’s doors in 1994. He said he’s met a lot of people over the 20 years he’s been there — both workers and guests. He said there is a great feeling of family at Roy’s.
Jesse Goo said he started working at Roy’s in 1996 and remembers the “good food and good times!” He, too, said there has been a lot of good people passing through the doors.
He said Roy Yamaguchi feels the Shops at Kukuiula has the plantation-style ambiance for the new restaurant, which will feature a new menu. Clark said there has been no timeline for opening, but it should be soon.
Rolly Liberato, who was living in Koloa when Roy’s opened, said there is more parking at Kukuiula.
“There have been a lot of good memories made there,” Laura said.
