Four-time defending champion California holds the team lead with a 282 following 18 holes of play, five strokes better than runner-up University of Nevada—Las Vegas (287) and six strokes better than Texas A&M (288).
Texas—El Paso, led by the 1-under par 71 from Martin Simonsen, sits at 289 in fourth place, two strokes better than Virginia that got 1-under par performances from Ji Soo Park and Danny Walker.
Justin Chu, Hawaii’s leading golfer, finished in a seven-way tie for eighth place at 1-under par 71 to give the host Warriors a tie for sixth place with Colorado State. Both teams finished 5-over par 293.
Ban’s 67 in whispering breezes and warm sunshine put him in the leader’s slot for individualists, just a stroke ahead of Arizona’s George Cunningham (68).
