• Dorothy Marcella (Balocan) Furtado passed away on March 21, 2015, at the age of 70 in San Diego, CA. Born on Sept. 25, 1944, in Honolulu, she devoted her life to her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas S. Furtado and daughter Jessica Elena Blando.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Frank (Lahaina) Furtado, Jessie (Leticia) Furtado, Clinton (Erica) Furtado, Bradley Furtado, Thomas Furtado Jr., daughters Alison (Keleki) Crichton, Caroline (Patrick) Dodge, Tina Furtado, Peggy Furtado, April (Larry) Toussant; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
No immediate services are planned at this time. Her children will honor her request to have her cremated remains returned to Kauai and scattered at sea.
Aida Carbonel
Aida Yelo Yniss Carbonel of Koloa went to be with the Lord and was reunited with her husband, Alfredo Itabac Carbonel, on March 2, 2015. She was born in Honolulu, Oahu on April 29, 1929.
She is survived by children Lorraine (Mike) Schmidt, Alfredo (Ruth) Carbonel, Albert (Tina) Carbonel, and Arlene (Adolf) Santana; grandchildren Kristie (Marlon) Cadiente, Alison Carbonel, Tasha (Patrick) O’Brien, Ryan Schmidt, Katrina Carbonel, Alec Carbonel, Alan (Katherine) Kalili, Ashleigh Carbonel, Aston Carbonel; great-grandchildren Khloe Miller, Ian Cadiente, Jystin Stiles, Kiani Farias, and Aysen Farias.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015, at Koloa Missionary Church. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. with services at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family requests aloha attire.
Yukiko Akazawa Kubota
Yukiko Akazawa Kubota of Kalaheo, Kauai, passed away on March 9, 2015, at Straub Hospital at the age of 87. Yukiko was born on Oct. 1, 1927, in Makaweli, Kauai.
Yukiko was preceded in death by husband, Nobuo Kubota and is survived by son Keith (Sharon) Kubota of Aiea, daughter Lorna (Steven) Freitas of Kalaheo; 7 grandchildren, Jocelyn (Hank) Barriga, Keven Freitas, Sheralyn (Sal) Hernandez, Serene Kubota, Jaclyn (Kihei) Fernandes, Reid Kubota, and Shealyn Freitas and nine great-grandchildren; sisters, MIsao Mori of Santa Barbara and Itsuko (Harry) Murabayashi of Lawai and brother, Eugene (Jessie) Akazawa of Manoa.
Please join our family in a celebration of her life on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Waimea United Church of Chris, Waimea, Oahu. Visitation at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m.
The family was assisted by Hosoi Mortuary, Oahu.
Lindsey Shea Smith
Lindsey Shea Smith of Kapaa, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the age of 25. She was born on Oct. 20, 1989, in Memphis, Tennessee and was a personal trainer on the island of Kauai.
Lindsey is survived by her parents, Billie (Harold) Dias of Kapaa and David (Mary Bird) Smith of West Memphis, Arkansas; twin brother Logan Smith of Honolulu; step-sisters: Chanel Dias and Ellen Dias; step-brother, Masa Dias.
Private family services were held.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
John ‘Jay’ Johnson
John “Jay” Johnson, 64, of Waimea, Hawaii, died on March 20, 2015, in Honolulu. He was born in Illinois on April 25, 1950. “Jay” was a landscaper and U.S. Army Veteran.
“Jay” is survived by his former wife, Deborah Moore; daughter, Lea (Ethan) Rodriguez; mother, Lillian Shirk; brother, David Shirk; sisters, Georgia Ann Harding and Charon Shirk and one grandchild. The family has chosen to have private services. Donations may be made to the Homeless Veterans Association in his name.
