WAILUA — Kauai’s Jamie Amimoto and Kapaa’s Bryden Salvador tied for low stroke honors at 79 Saturday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation Golf Match No. 4 at Wailua Golf Course.
Playing in whispering winds and hot conditions, Amimoto’s 79 (41-38) led the Kauai High School boys to its fourth consecutive win at 334 strokes, just seven strokes ahead of Kapaa High School who finished at 341.
Michael Miller (44-48-92) led the Island School group to a team 385, a stroke ahead of Reece Valencia (48-45-93) and Jacob Dysinger (49-44-93). Adam Sclafani (55-52-107) rounded out the Voyager showing.
Following Amimoto, Kauai got an 83 (41-42) from Devin Kimoto, with Trevor Kua (43-43) and Jacob Viquelia (43-43) each carding an 86. Keith Jose (44-45-89) filled in the leaderboard.
Kapaa boys saw Sequoia Logan (42-40-82) fill in behind Salvador with Landen Ishida (47-38-85) and Kainalu Gandia (41-54-95) filling in the team spots and Dylan DeSilva (53-48-101) rounding out the leaders.
Ky Tomimoto (50-53-103) led the Waimea boys to its 478 total. James Caudill (57-60-111), Austin Banasihan (57-56-113) and Hunter Ragasa (80-65-145) rounded out the team scoring with Braden Kobayashi (72-76-148) getting the nod as alternate.
Other boys playing as individualists included Lexton Camat (51-53-104), Micah Barretto (53-51-104), and Tyshawn Cain (42-47-89) for Kapaa High School.
Kauai High School individualists included Anthony Apalla (50-39-89), Austen Fernandez (46-47-93), Clayton McCune (55-59-114), Ian Castro (51-53- 104), Jeremy Felizardo (46-47-93), Jordan Serrano (47-45-92) and Riley Gokan (48-47-95).
On the girls’ course, Kauai’s Hiilani Alana posted the best round of the day at 78 (38-40), a stroke better than Salvador and Amimoto.
She led the Kauai girls team scoring followed by Kiri Oshiro (46-49-95), Dillyn Sakai (47-50-97) and Janae Park (48-52-100) for a team 270 over Waimea High School’s 314 team score.
Samantha Nichols (44-43-87) set the pace for the Menehune, followed by Bailee Taeza (57-51-108), Melia Takakusagi (60-59-119) and Daneica Muraoka (83-69-152).
Kapaa’s Naea Oda returned from her off-island trip to card an 80 (43-47), and Salisa Pegeder marked a 101 (52-49) for Island School.
Other girls on the course included Veronica Tanihiro (54-60-114) and Tiana Alvarado (72-63-135) for Kauai High School and Ashley Buyat (87-87-174) and Zynayah Puata (47-45-174) for Waimea.
This week’s Match No. 5 moves to the Poipu Bay Golf Course with the first group teeing off at noon.
