What did you do on Kaytlyn Akau Day?
Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. and Council Chair Mel Rapozo jointly declared Tuesday as Kaytlyn’s day in honor of her being named an honoree of the Prudential Spirit of Community Award.
Britnee Akau, a freshman at Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama, is home for spring break and started a book drive for Kaytlyn’s trip to Washington, D.C. where Kaytlyn, a CKMS eighth-grader, plans to read books (preferably on the Hawaiian culture and aloha) to elementary school students.
Cyndi Ayonon said Britnee has set March 31 as the deadline for trying to collect at least 100 books, which will be given away to the schools after Kaytlyn reads them.
Tamara Akau, another of Kaytlyn’s sisters, is home for break from Eastern Washington University and said she needs to work on her tan.
Proud mama Teresa Caires said Kaytlyn and her Girl Scout troop is still working on trying to reach their goal of Girl Scout cookie sales … one week remaining and they’re down to about 10 percent of their inventory left.
