The Poipu Kai Charity Doubles and other tennis tournaments at the Poipu Kai tennis courts may sound like a lot of fun.
But they’re more than fun — they help local nonprofit organizations.
Last week, Krystyna and Herb Noe, players and coordinators for the charity tennis, and Carolyn Caylor of the Poipu Kai Tennis Club, presented a check for $8,000 to the Kauai United Way. The total represents collections from the 2014 tennis tournaments played at the Poipu Kai tennis courts.
“This is a great way for these generous people to direct their donations to support Kauai’s whole community,” said Scott Giarman, KUW executive director. “We are so grateful for everyone’s efforts.”
Giarman said the Poipu Kai contribution goes to help the 29 partner agencies under the Kauai United Way umbrella.
Lynette Medrano-Stine, KUW campaign coordinator said volunteers spend hours ensuring that agencies supported by the Kauai United Way operate efficiently and effectively.
Medrano-Stine said the $8,000 contribution reflects a big 48 percent increase from the year before.
“Tourists recognize the United Way name and therefore feel comfortable knowing the donations will definitely go toward doing good here in our local community,” Caylor said.
Kauai United Way’s Partner Agencies offer a diverse array of dozens of social service programs, which save lives daily by helping tens of thousands of Kauai people each year.
Money raised on Kauai, stays on Kauai, Giarman said.
