Severe roadway congestion on Kuhio Highway along the Wailua-Kapaa corridor impacts the day-to-day lives of most Kawaihau district residents. This long-standing problem has regional impacts as well, affecting drivers traveling to North and South Shore destinations.
McCormick will discuss the DOT projects moving forward in the area, including the status of the Kuhio Highway widening project from the Temporary Bypass to Kuamoo Road.
He will also share information about the Kapaa Relief Route, known as the “permanent” Kapaa Bypass and the outcome of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for that project.
“This meeting is an opportunity to learn about options being considered for short- and long-term traffic solutions and to understand the process and the funding constraints for highway projects,” noted W-KNA Chair Rayne Regush.
