Kapaa High School’s varsity boys soccer team defeated Kailua of the Oahu Interscholastic Association, 3-1, on Saturday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex in Honolulu.
With the win, the Warrior boys placed fifth in this year’s Outrigger Resorts Boys Soccer Championships — Division II tournament.
“It was nice. It’s always nice to win the last game of the season, especially for this team,” said Warriors head coach Gary Hudson. “It wasn’t what we had our sights set on, but it was nice to finish on a good note.”
“They played inspired. They played well,” he added. “They were able to connect their passes and finish, and the defense did an awesome job of shutting down their goal scorer.”
Junior midfielder Eljay Camat, junior forward Koa Kallai and sophomore winger Clifton Oliver each scored a goal in Saturday’s fifth place match.
“Noa Kaye shot it. It hit the near post and I came from the back post and put it in,” Oliver said of his goal.
“It was a good accomplishment. We lost our first game, but we were looking to win the rest,” he said.
Hudson especially praised his defense’s performance in the game.
“(Senior goalkeeper Austyne Carvalho-Toloai) made some great saves, and (senior stopper Noah LaMadrid) shut them down for the day,” he said.
