PUHI — The Island School Voyagers and the Kauai High School Red Raiders split their tennis series Saturday at the Kauai Community College tennis courts.
The Voyager women shut down the Raiders, 5-0, while the Kauai boys emerged a 3-2 winner over Island School.
On the girls’ courts, Island School’s Michaela Fitzgerald took out Rachel Marshal, 6-0, 6-0 in the first singles match. Mia Fitzgerald was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Tailee Tangonan on the second singles court.
Katy Davidson teamed with Alex Obert to give Island School a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kauai’s Tarryn Orial and Teyanne Esaki on the first doubles court.
Whitney Summerhays and Ajai Scalafani took a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kaylin Kukino and Madison Rayno for Island School on the second doubles court, and on the girls third doubles court, Julia Randolph-Flagg paired with Gabri LaFratta for a 7-5, 6-4 win over Dareen Dameg and Manna Granziano.
Island School boys took victories on the first singles and third doubles courts. Davis Huffman defeated Kauai’s Braden Myrick, 6-4, 6-3 on the first singles floor. The Voyagers’ Quentin Allen and Ethan Jeal earned the doubles victory by default.
Kauai wrapped up its wins on the second singles court and captured the first and second doubles matches. Mitchel Evans got past the Voyagers’ James Papa in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, and 6-0. Moving to the doubles arena, Kauai’s Akira Takabayashi teamed with Holden Holiday to edge Ian Cowden and Zeb Wichert, 6-1, 6-2 on the first doubles court.
Kauai’s final victory came on the second doubles court when Ryan Owan paired with Ethan Combs to defeat Coleman Jonas and Eli Leech-Kitchman, 6-2, 6-4.
Kauai next travels to the Waimea High School courts Saturday to take on Waimea while the Voyagers meet Kapaa High School at the Kauai Lagoons tennis courts.
Both matches start at 10 a.m.
