The community will have a chance to help feed hungry people on the island when the Kauai Independent Food Bank holds its spring food and fund drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Donation sites will be set up at Kukui Grove Center, Big Kmart, Safeway, Sueoka Store and Ishihara Market.
The public is asked to contribute money and food that will support food bank programs that benefit keiki, families and seniors. There is a growing demand for help.
Nonperishable, especially rice and canned soups and tuna, as well as perishable, including bread, fruits and vegetables, are needed. Cash donations are welcome, too.
The food bank distributes about 14,000 snacks to students each month through its after-school program, more than 200 meals through the backpack program and more than 100 seniors receive assistance.
If anyone would like to volunteer to help with the food and fund drive, contact Leona Perez, (808) 246-3809.
