LIHUE — Victims’ rights advocates on Wednesday joined Kauai Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho, Jr. and the Kauai County Council at the Historic County Building for a proclamation ceremony to mark National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, which kicks off nationwide April 19-25.
The County of Kauai Office of the Prosecuting Attorney worked with the Kauai Police Department, YWCA of Kauai, the Hawaii State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Marsy’s Law for Hawaii along with other community stakeholders in getting a proclamation to praise victims’ rights week.
“Victim empowerment is a critical mission to many organizations who support victims’ rights,” said Prosecuting Attorney Justin F. Kollar.
National Crime Victims’ Rights Week honors and celebrates the achievements of the past 30 years in securing rights, protections and services for victims.
This year’s theme is Engaging Communities, Empowering Communities and local support groups will hold a variety of special events and programs around the state to call attention to victims’ rights.
