Kauai’s Jordan Serrano and Riley Gokan each fired an 86 to lead the Kauai boys to a 353 team total Saturday at the Puakea Golf Course.
Reece Valencia fired the best individualist team score at 81 (42-39) for Island School but that could not best the Kauai effort as the Voyagers came up eight strokes short at 361.
Kapaa’s Sequoia Logan topped the Warrior squad on an 82 (42-40) followed by Tyshawn Cain (50-52-102), Lexton Camat (61-43-104), Dylan DeSilva (54-51-105) and Micah Barretto (53-52-105) for a 393 and third place.
Waimea High School rounded out the boys team scoring on a 498 led by Ky Tomimoto (59-48-107), Austin Banasihan (68-57-125), Hunter Ragasa (65-64-129), James Caudill (74-63-137) and Braden Kobayashi (69-71-140).
Playing in a stiff wind on the final round before the state qualifying rounds start Friday at the Wailua Golf Course, the schools mixed the roster, allowing the younger players an opportunity at team scoring.
This saw the leader Kauai High School move Serrano (44-42) and Gokan (46-40) into the lead positions followed by Jeremy Felizardo (43-45-88), Austen Fernandez (47-46-93) and Ian Castro (49-50-99) mixing it up on the course and finishing the regular season undefeated.
Following Valencia, the Voyagers’ Michael Miller finished with an 85 (41-44), Jacob Dysinger added 92 (44-48) and Adam Sclafani ended with a 103 (51-52).
Janae Park took the lead for Kauai in the girls scoring with a 96 (49-47) to lead the wahine team to a 308 for an undefeated season.
Following Park, Dillyn Sakai (50-52-102), Veronyka Tanihiro (57-53-110) and Kiri Oshiro (52-61-113) filled in the Red Raiders’ scoreboard.
Samantha Nichols (46-48-94) led the Waimea girls to a 322 team total followed by Bailee Taeza (55-54-109), Melia Takakusagi (61-58-119) and Daneica Muraoka (62-63-125).
The regular team scoring golfers took the field as individualists. Kauai’s Trevor Kua set the pace at 75 (36-39) who was followed a stroke back by teammate Jamie Amimoto at 76 (37-39).
Kapaa’s Bryden Salvador, recently receiving word he will become part of the University of Hawaii men’s golf team, filled in third place at 78 (39-39).
Other individualists on the course included Kapaa’s Landen Ishida (51-40-91), Kauai’s Anthony Apalla (41-42-83), Clayton McCune (54-53-107), Deven Kimoto (46-46-92), Jacob Viquelia (46-40-86), and Keith Jose (45-42-87).
Kapaa’s Naea Oda set the pace on the girls’ course, firing an 86 (44-42). Other individualists included Paige Wesoloski of Kapaa (83-73-156), Salisa Pegeder of Island School (56-53-109), Sharae Cua (56-51-107) and Tiana Albarado (61-69-130), both of Kauai, and Zynayah Puata of Waimea (78-72-150).
The state qualifying rounds start Friday with the first groups teeing off at noon at the same course.
Round two of the qualifying rounds play Saturday with the first groups going off at noon at the Wailua Golf Course.
The girls play at the David Ishii Foundation Hawaii High School Athletic Association state tournament May 4-5 at the Waikoloa Kings Course on the Big Island.
The boys play May 7-8 at the same course.
