LIHUE — MK2 Christopher Grimes was selected as Coast Guard Station Kauai’s Sailor of the Quarter.
The award recognizes superior professional and personal dedication to the Coast Guard and the unit. It is billed as an extremely honorable recognition, awarded to the best of the best as selected among all the sailors on the ship or station.
Grimes won for the spring quarter for his superior performance, outstanding achievements and exemplary personal conduct.
“Your attitude and drive throughout this past quarter has been exemplary,” Seth Carter, USCG officer in charge said in the presentation, pointing to Grimes’ role in taking over various duties, including unexpectedly being put into the position of the engineering petty officer for a two-week period. “You responded with a high degree of professionalism and proficiency.
“Your development as an engineer throughout this past quarter will provide a critical sense of continuity in the engineering department throughout this summer’s transfer season,” Carter added. “Your desire to learn new skills while honing old skills will ensure your success within this great organization. Bravo Zulu! You are commended for a job well done.”
During the March 30 award ceremony, Stu Burley, the Kauai Counsel Navy League president, provided a presentation, commendation and a token of everyone’s gratitude to Grimes for his achievement.
The Sailor of the Quarter program was established to recognize superior performance of the petty officers and non-rated personnel with emphasis on outstanding achievements, exemplary personal conduct and military bearing, and demonstrated initiative in performance.
The nomination process is rigorous, making the recognition a tremendous accomplishment, a release announcing the award stated.
Only four individuals from each ship, station or unit are selected each year.
