LIHUE — The Kauai Writer’s Conference May 1-3 will feature six nationally recognized authors.
“There’s really no other event in Hawaii that brings top quality writers, authors and publishing professionals to Hawaii so that local folk and neighbor island folk can have access to them and learn from them about how to get their works published,” said organizer Dave Rosenberg.
Colson Whitehead, Vanessa Diffenbaugh, Laura Moriarty, Kristin Hannah, Lynne Cox and local writer Jill Marie Landis will host question and answer sessions to discuss aspects of writing.
“We have so many talented writers on the island,” Rosenberg said. “It’s just amazing and there’s nothing that brings those people together except a conference like this.”
The conference will also hold a “Read-A-Palozza,” where writers can volunteer to have parts of their manuscript read anonymously to the conference authors and faculty and receive immediate feedback.
Rosenberg said the conference isn’t only for adults.
“For the youth on the island that are interested in writing, there’s really no other support,” he said. “It makes them realize that there are career paths that are available to them as writers and we really feel that’s important.”
The conference is at Courtyard Marriot in Kapaa.
