LIHUE — Pat Griffin’s book on Lihue is getting noticed. “Lihue: Root and Branch of a Hawaii Town,” HAS received an Interpretive Media Award from the Historic Hawaii Foundation. The foundation’s annual Preservation Honor Awards will be May 29 in Honolulu.
In the notification letter, Historic Hawaii Foundation states: “This book has impressive research, careful documentation, and wealth of illustrations that trace the history from its beginnings to the present day. The analysis of Lihue’s three main building periods, evolution of roads and studied exploration of the town’s historic structures and creations, including the many mid-century modern buildings currently achieving historic status, makes this book an exemplary tool that encourages pride of place and careful preservation of this island’s county seat, ‘the heart of Kauai.’”
Griffin, president of the Lihue Business Association, has scheduled a number of talks and book signings in the next few months.
