ELEELE — A fire at Eleele Elementary School on May 10 destroyed the equipment locker and damaged the school’s special education classrooms. There were no injuries. An investigation is underway to try and determine who started the blaze, and how.
ELEELE — A fire at Eleele Elementary School on May 10 destroyed the equipment locker and damaged the school’s special education classrooms.
There were no injuries. An investigation is underway to try and determine who started the blaze, and how.
Some of the equipment destroyed included tricycles used to help develop the children’s motor and coordination skills. The school is running an inventory to see how much equipment was lost.
The students didn’t miss any days of class and were able to return to their old classroom on Thursday after the smoke damage had been cleaned by the school’s custodians.
The other room that was damaged by the flames was the school’s computer lab, which was also cleaned.
Superintendent Bill Arakaki also said because public schools in Hawaii are open it would have been easy for someone to get on Eleele Elementary School’s grounds to start the fire.
Multiple organizations are offering donations to the school to repair the damaged areas.
An investigation continues.
