Congratulations to retired Gen. Mary Kay Hertog who was installed Thursday as the first female commander of the Disabled American Veterans, Kauai Chapter 5!
Gen. Mary Kay (she’s also a police commissioner) was out with the new DAV Adjutant Kristi Stephens with literature, looking for veterans to register during the Kawamura Farms expo (the general said she needed her husband to come look at some of the equipment).
Kristi said the retired Air Force two-star general is also the first retired general to serve as the Kauai Chapter 5 commander.
Gen. Mary Kay replaces Ed Keoho who served as DAV Kauai Chapter 5 commander for eight years. Ed becomes the Senior Vice Commander.
Gary Inouye (he was at the expo, too) continues as the DAV Kauai Chapter 5 treasurer and Alfonso Garcia is the chaplain.
Everyone was installed by Ed Kawamura (you should see him in action getting donations for the DAV!) who is the commander of the Kauai Veterans Council.
