LIHUE — It’s a feast fit for a king, where guests can enjoy the ample offerings over several hours during one of Kauai’s signature events.
The 27th annual Taste of Hawaii is just around the corner, and event chairman Ron Margolis and the Rotary Club of Kapaa promise this year’s celebration will deliver all the goods, just like years past: A lot of food and fun packed in friendly atmosphere.
“I’m excited about the event,” Margolis said. “For me, it’s an opportunity to do something very productive and produce a wonderful event with my fellow Rotarians.”
Known as the ultimate Sunday brunch, the Taste of Hawaii is a four-hour extravaganza that lets people enjoy an unlimited amount of the best cuisine in the state. More than 40 professional chefs from across Hawaii, 15 beverage vendors and 10 musical and entertainment groups will make sure the festival is rocking on all cylinders.
Dishes will include St. Louis BBQ ribs served with pineapple sauce by the Lighthouse Bistro in Kilauea, Korean fried chicken and waffles, sea asparagus and cabbage slaw by Rumfire from Sheraton Kauai and guava-smoked Kaneshiro pork and sweet potato gnocchi by the Kitchen Table.
For those who have a sweet tooth, desserts, such as lilikoi passion cheesecake, macadamia brownies and cherry cheese ginger cookies from the Heartflame Bakery, will be sliced up.
Guests can wash down their treats with wines, beers, juices and sodas from Kauai’s beverage vendors.
Proceeds will go to benefit multiple programs on Kauai including scholarships for college-bound high school students, local town refurbishing products, and programs for the homeless and hungry.
“It’s a day to give back to the community,” Margolis said.
The celebration will take place at Smith’s Tropical Paradise from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on June 7. Tickets are $100 online at the TOH website and $115 at the door.
“They (guests) should come to have fun and to indulge in some of the finest food and beverage,” Margolis said.
The Rotary Club of Kapaa established the event in 1988.
