LIHUE — Elsie Wilcox Elementary School may have a new website by the time school opens for the fall, said Principal Corey Nakamura.
Nakamura accepted a grant for more than $2,900 from the East Kauai Lions Club for the design cost of the new website.
“The new website will allow families to download school forms, do online ordering for school attire, receive information from the school, and utilize the classroom page for homework and class projects,” said Stephen Fujii, a member of the EK Lions Education Committee who made the presentation. “The previous website is outdated and did not provide information families needed.”
Nakamura said there was a need for the new website for both the parents and community.
“We want to create the website where parents and members of the community can go to as a resource,” Nakamura said.
Some of the features of the new website include the enabling of 42 teachers to post homework assignments, including the date assigned, date due, and a description of the assignment with password protection.
It also enables the teachers to post class activities, including photos and a description via a blog template with password protection.
The new website should be operational the week before school opens on July 29.
Proceeds from the EK Lions grant come from its fundraising efforts, including the annual East Kauai Lions Pancake Breakfast.
