LIHUE — Thirty-seven teams competing in three divisions will open the Team Central Merv Lopes Kauai Hoops Classic on Thursday at three locations.
Clarence Sales, coach at Team Central Basketball, said the divisions will include intermediate, junior high and high school divisions. The girls will be playing in the high school division only.
Games will start at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Kauai High School gym and Wilcox Gym at the Island School campus. Games will tip off at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Teams are coming from Oahu, Maui and the Big Island, as well as the Mainland. Kauai teams include Team Central, Da Tsunami, Kaulupono, the Lihue Kamikaze, Papalina, Westside Basketball, and Waimea.
There is no admission to view the competition, which runs Thursday through Sunday.
