NUKOLII — Mark Perriello has accepted the post as the next president of the Kauai Chamber of Commerce.
The Washington, D.C., resident is the president and CEO for the American Association of People with Disabilities. He is expected to arrive in August.
“I have a special love for the people and lands of Hawaii,” Perriello said in a letter to the chamber. “I can think of no greater joy than working to secure the economic well-being of the residents of Kauai, while also ensuring that the island’s unique quality of life is preserved.”
Perriello will replace Randy Francisco, who resigned earlier this year after 10 years as chamber president. He was selected following a nationwide search.
“Mark and the chamber have a tentative agreement on the position,” said J Robertson, chair of the Kauai Chamber of Commerce board. “He is anxious to get here.”
Perriello has served on the staffs of U.S. senators. He worked in the White House under President Barrack Obama’s first administration.
“Mark sounds like a person who can take the Kauai chamber to the next level,” Robertson said.
