People need to have their smiles on when attending the Koloa Plantation Days celebration because Ferd Batin is working on a commemorative book about the celebration of the plantation lifestyles. Meanwhile, Melissa McFerrin- Warrack has a friend, Lily Tung Crystal and her son Cole, visiting from San Francisco to experience the Kauai versions of the Fourth of July and the Koloa Plantation Days. The two became acquainted while Melissa was working in Shanghai, China.
Dickie Chang was all over the place Friday, delivering the keynote address for the 86th Recruit Class graduation and still making it to the Sunset Hoolauluea at the Poipu Beach Athletic Club (they have a pickleball court, Jack Hodges!) where he hosted the Koloa Plantation opening festivities (Dakota Cohen got to do her “Me and Bobby McGee,” again). And Randy Ortiz said he even had Bruce Smalling in tow at the Junior Lifeguards Island Finals in Hanalei.
Kudos to Gerald Hirata, all his Aiea “helpers” and the Kauai Soto Zen Temple on another great bon dance — it was so busy never even got to see Chef Carla Dusenberry.
