KAPAA — Fans of “Hawaii Five-O” may recognize a familiar face when the show comes back for its sixth season in September.
Samantha Lockwood — actress and owner of Bikram Yoga Kauai in Kapaa — recently landed a guest spot on an upcoming episode of the CBS police drama filmed on Oahu.
Lockwood said she was elated to get the role, and had even more fun filming it knowing that her father, actor Gary Lockwood, who is best known for his role in the Sci-Fi movie “2001: A Space Odyssey,” also once had a guest spot on the original series that ran from 1968 to 1980.
In that episode he played a villain. His daughter said she she got to play “a bad-ass chick with a machine gun,” who takes part in an action sequence.
“I never shot a semi-automatic weapon (before). I felt so achy and bruised the next day – I couldn’t wait to get back to yoga,” Lockwood said.
In fact, the physicality of the action sequence is why Lockwood, who had previously auditioned for the show multiple times before getting this gig, was hired for this part. Yoga has been an essential part of her life ever since she was a child.
Many people would envy the life of an actress, but Lockwood talks with much more passion about Bikram Yoga.
She spent the past two years traveling the world teaching the exercise — mostly in Istanbul and Milan — and in March she moved to Kauai to open her first yoga studio.
“When I came home to L.A., I didn’t want to rejoin in the actress lifestyle,” Lockwood said. “I was at a point in my life where I really wanted to have a home base.”
What does she like most about living on Kauai?
“Sunrises. I love waking up in the morning and seeing a bright pink sky,” Lockwood said. “The mountains, the amazing fresh fruit, my family.”
