POIPU — Janet Kahalekomo had three generations of her family to help during the Koloa Plantation Days Craft Fair at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa — her granddaughters Brandee and Kayla, and her great-grandson, Keola.
“They all need to learn,” Janet said Tuesday as her fingers constantly moved to create coconut frond crafts. “The young one, Keola, even goes out onto the salt fields to work.”
Janet was one of many vendors who ringed the walkways on the upper level of the Poipu resort, who said they’d also be on hand Saturday during the annual hoolaulea at the Anne Knudsen Park in Koloa that follows the annual Koloa Plantation Days parade.
More food offering is on tap for Koloa Plantation Days when The Shops at Kukuiula hosts its Flavors of Kukuiula Friday afternoon. The shopping center’s many eateries will come out with “street foods” with a plantation theme while the John Rivera Trio, Sean Pulawa and Friends perform music.
