A restaurant in the heart of Kalaheo is getting a makeover from the owners of a popular Mexican eatery.
“We’re real excited that we’re here,” said Tony Aguilar, co-owner of Paco’s Tacos Cantina, who, along with his brother Paco, bought Birdie’s restaurant from Ron Horoshko. “We love to make food for people.”
When he and Paco visited Kukuiolono golf course for the first time last month to survey a new location for their expanding business, they were astonished by the beauty of the ocean, cool breeze and surrounding mountains.
“I never thought it was this beautiful,” Tony Aguilar said. “I mean who has this view, right?”
The name of the restaurant at the clubhouse in Kukuiolono golf course will be changed from Birdie’s to Paco’s Tacos Cantina.
The Aguilars also own Paco’s Tacos house and a Paco’s Tacos lunch wagon in Kapaa, Paco’s Tacos lunch wagon in Kilauea and Tony’s Pizza in Lihue.
They plan to serve Mexican-style dishes, while offering patrons local favorites such as Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice.
Aguilar said guests can expect a full menu change starting Aug. 1. Breakfast items are between $8 and $10 and will consist of traditional, Mexican cuisine. Breakfast is served all day. Lunch platters range between $5 and $16.
Other new aspects of the restaurant and bar will include draft beer and a selection of tequila.
Some things, however, will not change.
For instance, the Sunday brunch will remain, as will live music on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The grand opening of Paco’s Tacos Cantina is expected to be on the second week of August.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
