The ice cakes served up by the employees and families of The Club at Kukuiula were the perfect way to beat the heat and humidity at the annual Koloa Plantation Days parade and park celebration.
Served out of a replica of the Kukuiula General Store, the tasty morsels triggered memories of days when the ice cakes cooled workers toiling in the hot sun in the plantation fields.
“We made it ourselves,” said Tammy Puu.
But Koloa Outrigger Canoe Club coach Sale Potts said it best.
“This is not for us,” Potts said. “We already did this for years. This is for the young guys so they can learn — the legacy lives on!”
The Koloa Plantation Days is a 10-day commemoration and celebration of the plantation lifestyle which is the root of the Koloa town and its neighboring Poipu community. It wrapped up Sunday.
