KALAHEO — The Kapaa Warriors and Kaulupono clinched championships in their respective age groups Saturday as the Kaulupono Summer Basketball League begins to wind down ahead of school opening.
Noah Rull blistered the twine for 15 points and Chysen Barretto added 10 points to lead the Kapaa Warriors to a 49-37 win over Papalina to claim the Division 2 boys title.
Shaun Herbig and Gunnar Burkman topped the Papalina effort on nine and eight points, respectively.
Monique Lorenzo zipped for nine points and Schae Marie Tavita claimed eight points to lead Kaulupono, more commonly known as Pono, division 1 girls to a 23-13 edge over the Kamikaze for their title.
Kalia Shimabukuro, more commonly found on the soccer field, topped the Kamikaze effort on seven points.
Earlier in the day, Vincent Agreda led Team Lihue with nine points followed by Edgar Tolentino adding eight marks and Roed Pagatpatan finishing with seven points to lead the Lihue division 2 boys to a 41-14 showing over the Kamikaze for third place in that division.
Micah Matsunaga led the Kamikaze effort with seven marks.
Kaulupono division 4 girls whittled down that field with an 18-16 edge over Team Central with Hazel Serapio leading the way on nine points. Team Central got six points from Alena Bernardo.
The second division 4 girls game saw the Dream Team emerge with a 21-4 win over Central Hoops, the Dream Team getting seven points from Jade Ines and six points from Alexie Ann Yam.
With the win, the Dream Team will go up against Kaulupono, division 4 for the age group title while Team Central will face off against Central Hoops for third place.
Similarly, the boys division 3 set the stage for its title matches when Team Central took a 76-16 win over the Supersonics for the honor of facing Papalina, division 3 boys who were an 81-15 winner over Team Lihue.
Justin Faidley burned the twine on 21 points with Cameron Booth adding 14 points and Braden Simao finishing with 10 points to lead Team Central in its win.
Mason Broyles topped the Supersonics’ effort on 16 points. On the Papalina court, David Sabo Jr. blistered the hoop for a day’s high 46 points while Keave Tibon added 14 points in the Papalina, division 3 victory. Michael Questin topped the Team Lihue effort on 10 points.
Earlier in the week, Ayzlin Kealoha-Albarado and Sheryl-Ann Tomas each finished with 12 points to lead the Kamikaze division 3 girls to a 31-25 win over Kaulupono White who got six points from Carla Mae Satumba.
More playoffs are on tap today starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
