Kauai not very welcoming
John Humphrey (TGI, letter to the editor, Aug. 3) seems to be the guy whose policies made Jamaica so inhospitable, they had to spend a fortune on the “Come back to Jamaica” campaign. And neverquite recovered.
With the barking dogs, feral cats and 14,000 cesspools, I’m astonished that more Kauaiians don’t follow Mitt Romney’s advice and self-deport.
Just one more reason I will spend my tourist dollar somewhere more welcoming, like, say East Ukraine. They have no problem with feral cats or barking dogs, just lots of good recipes.

Dr. Sims made life better
My wife and I heard only this evening of Dr. Sims’ passing. We were merely interested viewers but we had come to look forward to and enjoy his experiences.
I viewed him as a principled, caring and quite personable man whom you must instantly like. While no family was mentioned, I hope they can find some solace and comfort in his good works onKauai.

Councilmembers should represent a district
When elections are at large, a small organized group is capable of influencing election outcomes.
When elections are by district, much more difficult.
