You decide that you need to do something. “Yes, I want to finally start exercising every day.” Or maybe, “I’m starting a diet on Monday morning.”
Sounds familiar? Yes, we all have things in our life that we want to change, goals that we want to achieve. We start full of enthusiasm, then what happens? After a couple days, maybe a week, and sometimes without even realizing it, we quit.
But why, what’s missing? Are we lacking motivation?
Most of the time we don’t understand the real reason behind the things we do, we forget the power of asking “why.” It’s not just about our goals, it’s actually connected to everything we do. Work, school, even cooking. Motivation comes from understanding why we do what we do. If you find this answer deep inside you then you’ll also find the things that are holding you back from getting what you want.
I know this sounds simple, and you’re thinking now that you wish it was that easy. But it is easy, we just need to pay more attention and we can create our reality.
Now, how to find the real reason behind what you do?
First, you need some quiet time so that you can think about what you really want. When you know what it is that you want, you need to focus your total attention on that. Visualize something that you have already achieved, and remember what it was like when you reached your goal. What did you gain? Pleasure, happiness and energy? But think about the opposite experience, when you set yourself a goal but you gave up or you did not achieve it. How did you feel? Maybe sad, disappointed and low energy?
Often our motivation for setting goals is the feeling we get when we achieve them.
I suggest you write down these feelings. Write down your goals too, and create a road map to how you can get there. Studies show that if you write your goals down you can achieve them 50 percent faster.
Decide now what you want, and why you want it. This will keep you pushing forward and you really won’t need to keep finding motivation, your reason will motivate you!
