The Coconut Festival
Everyone knows the KBA for the Coconut Festival which we have held in Kapaa on the first weekend of October for almost 20 years, but we do a lot more than arrange the best weekend celebration in the fall on Kauai.
Transportation Solutions
We work closely with the Department of Transportation to bring long- and short-term solutions to the Kapaa traffic woes and have over the years been the Eastside leader in advocating for effective changes, not just short-term Band-Aids.
The Crime Task Force
Once a month we meet with other associations from across the island to work on solutions to crime in our communities, we have lobbied for and crafted a new video testimony law that we hope to see taking a bite out of crime.
Mala Moana Restore our Reefs project
This is a pilot project created to restore a near-shore coral reef, north of the Kapaa Library and the Moikeha Canal by attaching broken, yet still alive, coral fragments to the shallow reef substrate just beyond the deeper, sandy base area. By “planting” corals and monitoring their recovery, growth, or failure we aim to restore some of the coral reefs that surround our island.
AgriTourism for Kauai
We have newly begun to develop an AgriTourism plan for Kauai, working with the county we hope to help our farmers create a more sustainable future on Kauai, by helping to broaden their income sources from tours and road side stalls and other financially rewarding marketing suggestions.
First Saturday Celebrations
Since its inception, we have nurtured the First Saturday event in Old Kapaa Town and we’re pleased to see it become such a strong venue for locals and tourists alike, to walk amid the stalls and shops of the Eastside with eclectic music, food, and diverse craft offerings all around.
As the economy is growing again we look forward to helping Kapaa (and the rest of the island) grow strong and vibrant once more.
