Visible limp not the only sign
I am pushed to write in response to Steven Mc.’s letter regarding handicapped parking violations.
I was offended by his beginning the letter, referring to “haoles” before deciding that they weren’t obviously handicapped. While I am in total agreement with him regarding misuse of these spaces, how would he know if that person had serious lung or heart problems, not visible with a “limp” or other obvious physical disability! They did have a placard. Get over yourself, Steven.

Aloha Angels deserve thanks
Aloha!
The special education teachers at Koloa Elementary would like to thank Poipu Rotary Club and Aloha Angels for their incredibly generous donation to our classroom. Wehave already used a portion of the funds to purchase access to leveled readers for our students.
Thanks to the extra funds, we are able to select and print books that match the skills taught for the week and the exact levels of our students. The students are able toaccess these readers and feel success everyday!
Of course, success breeds success!
We can’t wait to watch them grow as readers with these texts. As the year progresses we plan to use the remaining funds to purchase materials that allow greater accessfor our students.
We cannot thank Poipu Rotary Club and Aloha Angels enough for their generous donation. They have truly made a difference in our students’ academic lives!
Mahalo, mahalo, mahalo!

Big concerns around Haena State Park plan
I am gravely concerned at the proposed plans for Haena State Park, particularly in regard to Kee Beach.
As a resident and frequent user of Kee Beach, I feel the proposed plan is not practical and detracts from the natural beauty of the area.
Here are my suggestions:
1) Restrict parking to current parking lots only. Strictly enforce parking rules.
2) Do not exempt hikers from regulations. The hiker cars are a big part of the reason the parking lots fill up. Hikers leave their cars for days at a time. Even if you arriveat Kee by 6 a.m. you find the parking lot nearly full, but no one is on the beach. Hikers should be required to park at the far parking lot, leaving the beach parking forthose using the beach.
3) Do not build anything in this beautiful place! No gate, no walkway, no cultural center.
4) Do not charge!
If you have not walked along Kee Beach at sunrise toward Princeville then paused to look down the Na Pali Coast, please do so. God did an amazing job creating this sliceof heaven. The so-called improvements are not needed or wanted.
Thank you.
