KOLOA — Koloa Elementary School donated about 350 pounds of food to the Kauai Independent Food Bank on Tuesday.
“This is food which goes back to help the community,” said Kelvin Moniz, KIFB executive director. “A lot of you who are in A-Plus here at Koloa School may even enjoy some of the food you contributed.”
Kekila Kealoha, a student, said not everyone has food.
“We are happy to donate because it helps other people who don’t have food,” he said.
Moniz said the food collection for Koloa Elementary School was successful because of the strong participation by all classes.
“The students were very enthusiastic,” said Taylor Terrazas, a third-grade teacher. “They really want to help people, especially after they were told how not everyone has food to eat.”
The collection will go toward the KIFB Holiday Food and Fund Drive which runs through Dec. 31. KIFB’s goal for this drive is $40,000 and 40,000 pounds of food.
