LIHUE — After dropping to the Kapaa High School girls last week, Kauai, led by Brooke Hornos, came up short by 23 points to the Waimea High School girls Wednesday afternoon during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation air rifle matches held at both the Kauai High School range and the Island School facility.
Kauai’s Ryker Amimoto (94-72-87), despite being outgained by a digit from Kapaa’s Maverick Yadao (89-88-77-254) at the Island School range, led the Kauai boys to finish with the top team score at 1,199 points. The win over the Waimea boys clinches the KIF boys division for the Red Raiders.
Waimea, getting its top shot from Robyn Acob (87-83-67-237), who graced the range in her birthday tiara, edged past the Kauai girls, 1,150 to 1,127 points to clinch the KIF girls division.
Waimea next hosts Kapaa at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center on Wednesday while Island School comes over to visit Kauai High School. Both matches get underway at 3 p.m.
The Hawaii High School Athletic Association state tournament will take place on Maui starting Oct. 27.
