Rev. Ryan Newman of the All Saints’ Episcopal Church and Preschool had his hands full Sunday during the annual Blessing of the Animals service in Kapaa.
His entourage of dogs (Brent Mizutani said they were all of the cuddly type), cats, and stuffed animals was joined by Manapua, a pig belonging to Daileen Barton who got the piglet (Daileen said he likes boys, not girls) from the Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair.
Rev. Ryan (the collection from the Blessing of the Animals was also turned over to the Kauai Community Cat Project) also got the help of Mary Wilder and Martha Girdany of the Kauai Community Cat Project in trying to find homes for the eight cats he and his wife found along the road in Moloaa so those animals would be blessed with a home along with all the other animals who were blessed.
Mary and Martha helped the Newmans with their newfound foster family and were also trying to get to Petco to “adopt out” more cats because it was Petco’s 50th anniversary, and if they could find homes for five cats, there was a bonus in the feat.
