Questions remain on dairy farm plan
On Feb. 22 of this year, Hawaii Dairy Farm had their proposal writer Group 70 began an EIS (Environmental Impact Study). Hundreds of questions of facts were submitted to them.
Now one learns that after failing to meet a 180-day extension on their lease permit to allow completion of the EIS by November, HDF will not meet that date, and again have ask the county for another extension until the second quarter of 2016. This is a delay tactic, unbecoming of one who professes the ability to conduct scientific inquiry. The facts have not changed nor will they.
There already exists a significant pollution problem. Heavy rain on non-absorbent ground still runs downhill. No event that creates a milk shortage can occur that would not also shut down this large dairy concept. The milk won’t be less priced.
The true intention of Pierre Omidyar’s purchase becomes more suspect and his indifference seems equal to his monetary status. His PR person continues to attack those who raise dairy-based questions, but ignores the glaring misrepresentations in the HDF proposal.
It’s not rocket science. They did not know the type of land they were purchasing or its ability to handle the many conditions it must meet including the ability to produce crops at the production level required to sustain feed requirements.
All of its parameters are wrong or unproven and that which dairy experts from all over the country, including those schooled in running much smaller pasture-based dairies, have quickly and clearly pointed out their certain failure.
It simply won’t work. It can’t work. It is a clear picture of an environmental and economic disaster. It is an off-the-wall presentation of cut and paste that even mentioned freezing conditions. Facts and truth are the same and 180 days more won’t change them.
