WAILUA — The East Kauai Lions are awakening, said Lion Harvey Kinoshita on Wednesday at the Eastside Happy Dog Playground in the Wailua Homesteads Park.
Kinoshita was finishing up planting the last of six trees at the dog park as a service project.
“This is something Rene Tokuda wanted done for a long time,” said Lion Roy Nishida. “But there was the county paperwork which needed to be done. Now, we finally get to plant the trees. We’re not done, yet. Rene wants more things done, but we need to wait on the county.”
The Lions planted two Philippine Rosewoods, or Nara, two Tulip trees, and a pair of Flowering Magnolia — according to Tom Lovelett, who was monitoring the canine and human traffic with Tokuda and Donna Pickard.
Kinoshita said following a time of inactivity, the East Kauai Lions Club has several other projects lined up, including the painting of the Kauai Veterans Center parking area in a few weeks, and helping the Rotary Club of Kauai with the Lights on Rice holiday parade tonight.
