WAIMEA — The Waimea High School science and agriculture students will be giving away free yellow and red onion seedlings today starting at 4 p.m. at the Waimea and Eleele branches of First Hawaiian Bank.
These are seedlings which can be grown into bulb onions, not for consumption as saimin garnishes. The seedlings were started as a partnership between the Waimea High School science and agriculture students under the leadership of Greg Harding, Syngenta Hawaii, Bayer CropScience, and Basilio “Bunga” Fuertes, a Waimea High instructor who started the tradition of giving away the free seedlings.
The free seedlings will be available as long as supplies last.
