Christmas Day message should be kind, not cruel

I was very disappointed to see TGI display a cartoon making fun of our president and his health care plan on Christmas Day.

No problem with it on other days but feel there is far too much belittlement of people these days when we should be spreading kindness.

A nice Christmas message would have been so much better.

Lucky we live Kauai

Several days ago I was walking my dog in Princeville, very late in the afternoon and we also had light rain. I noticed the UPS driver had stopped and was talking to a man. When I approached, the driver asked if I had the Princeville Patrol number. I did, and gave it to him. The driver said the man was here in a vacation rental house and went walking and lost track of the house. The driver got some phone information from the man but was unable to contact anyone; voice mail only.

The UPS driver stayed with the man and was able to contact Princeville Patrol. Subsequently Patrol met them and took the man in their car. It was a happy ending as Patrol was able to find the vacation rental house. This UPS driver was a great human being going out of his way to take care of another person in distress and Princeville Patrol also showed patience and compassion working with the lost man.

Council meetings are reality show madness

This is in response to TGI Forum (Dec. 23) “Council can do better working together,” by Mason Chock.

For those of you who don’t watch the new reality show on Hoike TV, or able to sit in at council meetings, Mason Chock brings to light problems that plague our council in being an efficient productive team for the citizens of Kauai.

“Instead of government as a team for the best interests of Kauai, we are in constant competition with each other. This has resulted in ineffective political compromises that serve no one.”

Chances are Mr. Chock’s commentary will add more of the same to the faces of our career politicians that serve us. It’s our own fault, we allow council members to serve too many years of service. They forget there is no “I” in the word “team.” To me, I see the power trips of some councilmembers will continue and it’s going to be up to the voters to stop this madness.

Maybe a special election of impeachment would show how many of us feel about their actions.

As taxpayers we spend over $350,000 a year for this reality show madness and I must say we can turn this into a national reality show like “Duck Dynasty.”

The money made would solve the financial problems of the council by not having to raise the GET.
