LIHUE — The final four performances of Kauai Community Players’ [title of show] begin Thursday night and wrap up with a Sunday matinee at Puhi Theatrical Warehouse.

Opening night also opened the 2016 season celebrated with a “black and white” champagne gala. KCP board members decked out in tuxedos, suits and gowns greeted theatre-goers with free champagne Jan. 8. Many theatre-goers also dressed for the occasion.
Vivian Nickerson headed the committee that planned the event with committee members Nellie Foster and Candace Kepley. They decorated the lobby, strung lights and poured champagne. After the show, board members provided pupu for cast, crew and audience, an opening night KCP tradition.
KCP Board President Wil Welsh said the board plans to continue the opening season festivities in future seasons. Another first for KCP is offering wine and beer for sale before the shows and during intermission,Welsh said. Homemade baked goods will continue to be available.
The second show of the season, “Vanya & Sonya & Masha & Spike,” a Christopher Durang comedy directed by Faith Harding, opens Feb. 12.
Arnold Meister directs “It’s Only a Play” by Terrance McNally opening March 25.
“The Rainmaker” directed by Bard Widmer opens May 6 and closes the 2016 KCP season.
[title of show] directed by Chris Alderete plays Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., and 4 p.m. Sunday.
