Plan to boost airport unnecessary
This is crazy. Neves wants, wants, wants. I understand most folks operate in their own self interest. I want, want, want too, but somehow I don’t get, get, get. Just the construction will make the airport a nightmare for years. I agree with Kagawa. Fix the traffic gridlock first. The airport is fine just as it is.

Lihue Airport fine as it is
Whose bright idea was it to waste all the money to “improve” the Lihue Airport? What’s wrong with being small? It’s so fast and easy now, why change it?
The Garden Island newspaper article says it’s to make it easier for the expanded tourist trade. So, you want to make it easier for them to come and overcrowd the island more than they do already?
The airlines announced how they had a banner year on revenue while the residents are crying about the higher prices to fly inner-island. And it is crazy how the prices jumped after Aloha Airlines left. So the tourists are also paying that much higher price for tickets too, but they just chalk it up to being part of their vacation.
The hotels are also chirping about the high occupancy rates and how there are more tourists staying longer and spending more money, yet the residents are complaining about how crowded it is everywhere we go. They are even talking about limiting the amount of people allowed on the Na Pali trail. Yet, you want to expand the airport so it can get worse?
I can see it now: Tourists arrive and get their rental cars but are unable to get out of the airport because it’s so crowded. They will be unable to get to their hotels and will have to spend their whole vacation in the car on the way there.
This is the cart-before-the-horse thinking. You have to put in a bypass first before planning for more people to come.
