Jack Hodges, USA Pickleball Association District-Ambassador for the West Region, state of Hawaii, will be hosting a free pickleball clinic, with play to follow Monday at the All Saints’ Gym in Kapaa.
The clinic will start at 6:30 p.m. and joining Hodges will be coordinators Mario Hendricksen, Carol Mackey and Carol Surrat.
“This is one of the fastest-growing sports here on Kauai,” said Melanie Okamoto of the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation. “We have lines waiting to play when we open up the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center for pickleball play.”
Hodges said the clinic is being held ahead of four play dates which will take place in March at the All Saints’ Gym in Kapaa — Kauai’s newest venue.
“We’re getting a feel for the response to pickleball on the Eastside,” Hodges said.
Play dates are set for March 2, March 10, March 28, and March 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Site coordinators are working for more dates in April, and the coming months.
