WAILUA — If the weather continues like it was Tuesday, there will be some hard golf played, said University of Hawaii golfer Cameron Kaneko, a freshman from Huntington Beach, California.
Kaneko is one of the host Hawaii golfers entered in the 40th John Burns Intercollegiate golf tournament which tees off with a shotgun start at 8:30 this morning at the Wailua Golf Course.
The tournament is scheduled to play 54 holes today, Thursday, and Friday over the 6,991-yard, par 72 course and features seven Top 50 nationally ranked teams, including the five-time defending champion, No. 21 California.
Host University of Hawaii mens golf team will field two teams for the 16-team tournament.
“Coach hasn’t told us on which team we’ll be shooting,” said Sam Schwartz, a freshman from San Clemente, California. “I guess he’ll look at all the scores once everyone is in and we’ll find out Wednesday morning. I really like this Wailua course.”
Also on the Hawaii teams are Kauai natives Pono Tokioka, a junior from Lihue, and Bryden Salvador, a freshman who graduated from Kapaa High School as a Kauai Interscholastic Federation golf standout. He is from Kilauea.
