Mary Ellen McGregor died peacefully at her home at Hanalei Colony Resort, Wainiha, on Jan. 28, 2016. She was 86 years old.
Mary was born to Donald Alexander and Margaret Emma (Bieri) McGregor. She was raised along with her three sisters and brother in McGregor, ND. Dr. McGregor graduated from NDU and received her Doctorate of Medicine from the McGill Medical School in Montreal. She retired from her successful practice in Seattle in 1996 to live in the home she and her husband had purchased in the 1960s. She loved her Hawaiian friends and living on the North Shore. Mary is survived by her step-children: Susan Shawgo, of Kauai; David Ballard of Kennewick, WA; and seven grand- and great-grandchildren, 11 nieces and nephews, and numerous grand and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Ballard; her step-daughter Diana Melum; her siblings Luella Ritter, Maxine Elzi, and Delores and Donald McGregor.
Mary will be fondly remembered by her patients and peers. She was renown for her list of well-known patients and her amazing diagnostic abilities. When specialists received a referral from “Mac,” they scheduled the patients immediately.
Mary had a quick wit, loved to talk story, and was always kind and loving. She will be dearly missed.
