The Kapaa High School girls basketball team failed to get a seed in the OC16 Hawaii High School Athletic Association girls basketball state championships, Division II.
Instead, Kapaa, winner of the Kauai Interscholastic Federation title, will play Kohala High School Wednesday in a 7 p.m. match at the Keaau High School on the Big Island, according to an announcement by the HHSAA Sunday morning.
A win in the opening round will pit Kapaa against No. 4 seed Molokai Thursday in a 5 p.m. tipoff at Keaau.
Top seed for Division II goes to the Hawaii Baptist Academy with Kamehameha-Hawaii getting the No. 2 seed. The Kaimuki Bulldogs hold the No. 3 seed.
Other teams participating in the Division II state girls basketball championship are McKinley, Damien, Waipahu, St. Francis, Mid-Pacific Institute and Hanalani.
Division I teams which will contest on Oahu include Konawaena getting the top seed followed by No. 2 Lahainaluna, No. 3 Maryknoll, and No. 4 Leilehua high schools.
Teams participating in the Division I state girls basketball championships include Punahou, Farrington, Kamehameha-Maui, Kaiser, Roosevelt, Mililani, Hilo and Radford high schools.
