Letters for Feb. 23, 2016
Rubio is strong Republican candidate
If Ronald Reagan were alive today, whom do you think he would support for president? Reagan had famously said he would back the most conservative candidate who could win.
Donald Trump currently leads among Republicans. He is not a true conservative, since he favors socialized medicine, which would
cost $28 trillion to fund. Even if we were to confiscate the entire wealth of the hated 1 percent, it will not be enough. There will be
an astronomical tax increase for the 52 percent who constitute the tax-paying middle class, since 47 percent pay little or no taxes.
Trump has successfully tapped into the unbridled anger of those frustrated by President Obama’s failed policies. But is he electable? The recent January Gallup poll showed that Trump has an unfavorable rating with 60 percent of Americans. This is not surprising, considering that Trump has insulted his rivals, prisoners of war, unattractive women, Muslims, Mexicans and the Pope. If Trump
wins the Republican nomination, Democrats will dance with glee as they look forward to a 60 percent landslide.
In that same Gallup poll, Hillary Clinton has an unfavorable rating of 52 percent, Ted Cruz 37 percent and Marco Rubio 33 percent.
Rubio attracts conservatives, Hispanics, young people, minorities and independents. In contrast, Cruz is too extreme for the independents. Having the charisma of John Kennedy and the eloquence of Ronald Reagan, Marco Rubio is easily the most electable.
Hopefully, Hawaii Republicans will vote with their brains rather than their emotions on March 8.

‘Politicians’ leading country in wrong direction
In response to Carla Harringer letter Sunday, Feb. 21 “Hillary best choice for president.” Carla, are you voting for Hillary because she will be the first lady president? Did you vote for Obummer because he was the first black man as president? Do you even have a slight clue of what condition our country is in? Do you have a clue of why every four years we continue to arrive at the same condition as our last president has left us or worse? Is there anything you can think of that would indicate why millions of American voters are no longer going to do like you think you should do when it comes to voting for a new president and why?
Carla, it’s time you to wake up. You obviously don’t have a clue why Mr. Trump our next president is so popular and why it will be a landslide election. We have been plagued by the “politicians” for many decades that have done nothing to stop the climbing debt that my grandchildren and great grandchildren will inherit because of people like you who will never cast a vote to given change. Just look at the track records of the politicians and then tell me when you plan to change your vote for a businessman who will do as he says.
You speak as if it takes a rocket scientist to run our county when really it only takes a smart business man.
