Nicole Fuertes got to come home Wednesday for the Island Air’s resumption of interisland service to Kauai (congratulations to Les Murashige, Leina Alcos, and all of the Island Air ohana!). Unfortunately, she missed Jacob ‘Smilie’ Punzal’s trial run (Leina said he had to keep practicing) on the microphone, and Wayne Doliente (no miso soup at the airport) must have had a full day because he wasn’t at opening night at KIF volleyball (Kevin Cadiente was off Tuesday).
Coach Basilio “Bunga” Fuertes got to visit the welcoming reception and the dancers of Halau Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala are really good at getting into their hula regalia in the dark (the sun is still sleeping at 5:30 a.m.), and there is little, if any light in the airport parking lot, and what time did Eric Nordmeier have to catch The Kauai Bus to make the airport on time?
Mark Perrillo, Carol Manera Texeira (she had to get a photo of Star-Advertiser’s Craig Kojima who was on the inaugural flight), and even Anna Badoun (anybody know how to get the spots off the Sony a6000?) beat the birds in getting up, joining Chris Gampon at the blessing officiated by Kahu Kelekona Bishaw of the Kamehameha Schools Chapel.
