LIHUE — A body of a Lihue man was discovered in the Lihue County Park behind the Central Pacific Bank Wednesday morning.
John Raymond Caravalho, 59, was found by a friend around 7:30 a.m., sources confirmed. Caravalho had been homeless going on seven years.
Police said foul play is not suspected.
Friends and family surrounded the body hours after police and mortuary officials arrived to take it to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for an autopsy.
Caravalho’s aunt, in tears, hugged Caravalho after his body was placed on a stretcher by officials.
“I didn’t expect him to die like this,” she said as she clutched one of Caravalho’s sandals in her hand.
Donna Hubbard, another friend who hangs around the park, said she last saw Caravalho Tuesday drinking a soda. He seemed fine, she said.
“We’re like family,” she said.
