KAPAA — One lady insisted there were others who needed things worse than she did Sunday in the shade of a false milo tree at the Kapaa Beach Park.
Despite encouragement from another lady, whose pile of clothes and bedding filled the shaded area, the reply was steadfast — there are others who need it more.
Windy Kirifi, owner and cosmetologist of The Edge in the Anahola Marketplace, had a long line of clients to the tent where she was offering free haircuts.
“This is how I serve,” Kirifi said. “I’ve been doing this for about 30 years, starting from my days at Regis where we did Clip for a Cure. I’ll keep doing this for as long as I can.”
She was a part of the Ohana Christian Fellowship who filled the park with activities, including free lunch, free items from a stockpile of donated items including household goods, bedding, and clothing, and a variety of games, including the traditional Easter egg hunt for keiki.
Following the early morning service, the “Day of Hope” started featuring the mother and daughter duo of Lyah and Kaylynn Drake offering a hula.
“Ohana Christian Fellowship does this twice a year,” Schwartz said. “Today is Easter, a Day of Hope.”
